May Wedding at Kentwell Hall

Back to one of my favourite venues this week, Kentwell Hall in Suffolk. Catherine and Tom had their ceremony at the beautiful Clare Priory first and then arrived back at Kentwell with their guests for the reception. Any event at Kentwell is special, but as the guests wandered around the stunning gardens with Catherine and Tom, there was a magical feeling to the place …..

The day started with Catherine and her bridesmaids getting ready in one of the original Tudor bedrooms at the top of the hall. The girls wore a rich shade of teal and each carried a soft pink peony for their bouquets.

Catherine had the most exquisite dress with lace details and a romantic floaty chiffon train – she looked simply gorgeous and her father looked as proud as could be!

After the ceremony at Clare Priory, Catherine and Tom came out into the May sunshine and into a cloud of confetti….

The Kentwell Hall Rolls Royce took the bridal couple back to the Hall and their guests joined them out on the front courtyard for champagne and canapes. It was a pleasure to get to meet their lovely family, including two very sprightly grannies who were lots of fun …..

It was easy to take a set of romantic couple portraits of Catherine and Tom. This couple who had met in their first term at university, were full of fun and their love for each other was a joy to capture.

Catherine and Tom had been keen to keep their wedding day simple and relaxed and with the photographs taken in as natural a way as possible. This was achieved as promised and they had plenty of time to spend with their guests as they joined them in the beautiful gardens in the evening sunshine …

The soft muted colours of Catherine’s bouquet were echoed in the flowers for the cake. Several of the guests had made some delicious looking treats which were enjoyed as well as the traditional wedding cake. The table decorations were chosen to mark the places that were special to the couple.

Great speeches, a band who shook Kentwell’s foundations for guests who didn’t leave the dance floor and fabulous firework display made a surprise ending to the night!

Easter Wedding at Cooling Castle

On Good Friday, I travelled down to Kent and to the lovely venue, Cooling Castle. Emma and Martin could never have expected the amazing Easter weather and the guests were very happy to sit outside for most of the day in the central courtyard. Emma was also lucky to have a couple of very special young people in her bridal party who were absolute stars!

The rest of the pictures will be available for family and friends to see once Emma and Martin are home from honeymoon. Please click here to register your interest.

Emma Clark - May 5, 2011 - 8:45 am

Martin & I would like to thank you for these wonderful pictures – we love every one of them. The children look fantastic and so do we (it’s not often – perhaps never – that I say that about a picture of me!), so thank you very much. We’re very excited to see the rest of the pictures when they are ready.

Friends and family who have seen the photos love them too!

You were fantastic on the day, both at our house in the morning when we were getting ready and at the venue.

So thrilled – couldn’t recommend you highly enough!

Thank you Justine.

Much love

Wedding Photography at Romantic Leez Priory

Last weekend I did the wedding photography at Leez Priory for Kirsty and Chris. They were lucky to have one of the first wonderful Spring days, allowing them to really make the most of the romantic setting of Leez Priory, with guests chatting outside on the lawns until early evening. The whole day was very relaxed, with even a last minute dress ‘hitch’ unable to ruffle Kirsty’s calm and happy mood. She had the most beautiful dress with ruching and applique roses to one side and it fit like a glove!

The lovely little bridesmaid, Millie, was first  to be ready and took her duties very seriously as expected from a seasoned pro at this role! Kirsty had chosen beautiful spring tulips for her bouquet in soft muted pinks and greens.

After organising a few groups of family photo’s, I took lots of candid images of Kirsty and Chris and their guests enjoying the setting and atmosphere of the venue. Leez Priory also offered several different lovely backdrops for some beautiful wedding ‘portraits’.

The wedding breakfast was held in the adjacent barn with wonderful high ceilings. The evening sun was streaming in through the windows as the guests took their seats for the speeches. The tables were decorated with more spring tulips and table place names that echoed the extensive travelling that Kirsty and Chris have enjoyed.

The Vintage Wedding Photography Look – What I have been up to this winter…!

During the quieter months over the winter when there are fewer weddings, it is the perfect opportunity for me to do my homework on the new looks and trends emerging for wedding photography. I really enjoyed meeting and working with Damian Lovegrove, Tamara Peel and Jo de Banzie and getting to know the irrepressible Chloe Wicheloe and the absolutely perfect woman…  Madame Binks!

Whilst I usually aim for a more natural and timeless look to my images, I always keep an eye on the new looks emerging from around the world. These last few years have seen a real trend for the ‘vintage’ look to wedding photography – there are several UK photographers leading the field with this genre and perhaps the best is Gill Taylor. I was lucky enough to attend her first seminar in the UK to learn about this technique in more depth. Her workshop was great fun and I can recommend it to anyone interested in this style ……  The following images were processed using her intricate photoshop recipes – I will be really interested to see if UK brides are quick to include this ‘look’ in their own wedding photographs.

Gorgeous images, Justine! I really like the slight caramel tones on the first photos of Chloe.

Early Spring Wedding in Mayfair, London

I stayed in London the night before Sara and Rich’s wedding and arrived at Sara’s flat with plenty of time to capture all the fun and excitement of the girl’s preparations. Sara had chosen seven of her girlfriends to be bridesmaids and I soon learnt that they had come from all over the world to be there for Sara on her wedding day. The expert hair and make-up team easily coped with all the different girls and we left right on time, in a fleet of ribboned London taxi’s to set off to Dartmouth House.

My first wedding at Dartmouth House in Mayfair, but I can see it becoming a favourite venue. Set right in the heart of London, just off Berkeley Square – it was the perfect setting for Sara and Rich’s ‘London’ themed wedding.

The ceremony was simple and very moving, with both Sara and Rich reading their own personal vows to each other. There were a few tears – most definitely of joy – and then a lot of  kissing as with a punch in the air – they were married!

Sara and Rich came down the grand staircase at Dartmouth House and outside into the early Spring sunshine. A cloud of red rose petals showered the happy couple before we went for a great fun photo session around the streets of London, including an iconic shot of them on the zebra crossing in Berkeley Square. With a chorus of tooting horns and well wishes from passers by – it seemed like everyone wanted to show their joy for Sara and Rich on their wedding day.

Whilst Sara waited for her guests to take their seats for dinner, she wanted to have a picture taken to make a special memory of her wearing her red wedding shoes. I absolutely love this picture of her as she looks so happy, knowing that her wedding day had been all that she had dreamed it would be, surrounded by her family and friends.

The new Mr and Mrs Heald entered the dining room dancing to a raunchy rock anthem – yet another ‘surprise’ for the guests in a day which had been full of surprises. I left late in the evening, taking my usual ‘signature shot’ of the outside of the venue as Sara and Rich and their friends danced into the night. The rest of the pictures will be available once Sara and Rich return home at http://www.everybodysmile.biz/cgi-bin/public.cgi?Id=122366 – please register here if you would like to know when they are ready.

Gorgeous capuring, Justine! So glad you caught that ‘punch in the air’ so perfectly, and all that confetti floating around! The venue is just out of this world – so stately! And Sara and Rich look so very happy together. Sara looks like the cat who got the cream in that shot on the marble staircase! Congratulations to both of them. And well done to you!
