The first set of Hengrave Hall wedding images for 2013 comes from Laura and Jonathan’s spring wedding held there at the start of April. The weather certainly offered the seasonal ‘spring showers’ a plenty but luckily the sun did break through for a short while in the afternoon for a beautiful set of couple portraits.

Laura was attended by no less than seven bridesmaids, one of which was a familiar face for me as I had shot her own wedding just last year. The girls all looked stunning in their soft pastel pink long dresses and Laura herself looked sensational in a beautiful and original styled dress. Jonathan and the rest of the guys were getting ready just down the hall and it made a nice change for  the groom to have some equally sumptuous accessories to photograph as the bride! Once everyone was ready, the boys headed over to the little chapel within the grounds to greet their guests whilst the girls received their bridesmaids gifts and probably took even more photos than I did!

Laura and her gorgeous coterie of bridesmaids had to make a quick dash across from the main buildings of Hengrave Hall to the little chapel in the grounds as the first spots of rain were felt. After a simple, joyful ceremony, another dash, featuring an army of staff with umbrellas, saw the guests dried off and happily celebrating inside the wood panelled ballroom of Hengrave Hall. A quick dash out into the gardens between showers gave me the chance to take some beautiful romantic shots of Laura and Jonathan.

I couldn’t have asked for nicer clients than Milly and James who chose a summer wedding at Hengrave Hall. It was an absolute pleasure to spend time with them and their fabulously welcoming parents at one of my favourite wedding venues in Suffolk.

The day started early with a simple but lovely ceremony in the little Summerhouse at Hengrave Hall, with just Milly and James’s close family present. The first champagne of the day was popped as they exchanged their gorgeous wedding gifts to each other.

The bridal preparations for the church ceremony took place in the beautiful main bedroom at the Hall. There was plenty of time to capture all of Milly’s lovely choices for her wedding day and to meet her bridesmaids and pageboy. The beautiful bridal flowers were made by Milly’s mother.

The lovely little chapel at Hengrave Hall was filled with family and friends as Milly was escorted by her father up the little path to where James was waiting.

The blessing ceremony was simply beautiful, with the afternoon sunlight filtering in through a west window in the chapel and exquisite singing of Pie Jesu by a friend of Milly’s.

The guests relaxed in the afternoon sunshine on the West Terrace of the Hall, enjoying the  champagne and canapes and a variety of garden games.

James and Milly took a few moments away from their guests for me to capture some lovely couple portraits with the fabulous backdrop of the main facade of Hengrave Hall.

After dinner and some really entertaining speeches, the warm evening encouraged the guests back out into the garden until late in the evening. The lanterns were lit along the terrace and some more serious game playing got underway!

There were too many lovely weddings to do individual posts on in July but here are a few of my favourites ….

First up, David and Nicola who were married at their own university college, Trinity Hall in Cambridge and then held their reception at the fabulous Hengrave Hall. Wedding photography at Hengrave Hall offers a wealth of opportunities both inside and out with many different vistas and period details.

My favourite image from this wedding is one of Nicola entering the chapel and almost appearing to float on her heavenly wedding dress.

Another beautiful bridal image was taken as Emma made her way down the stairs of her family home for the last time before her wedding. She paused in the stairwell with the light streaming in making this image appear to have an almost ethereal feeling.

One of the best things about being one of the professional wedding photographers in Suffolk is the wonderful variety of weddings I am able to work on. Daniel and Elena created a very special day celebrating the traditional  English country wedding but with Greek touches in tribute to Elena’s heritage. The wedding was held in the family garden with a splended marquee bedecked with several miles of colourful bunting – all hand stitched by Daniel and Elena! For a vintage feel, picnic rugs were spread out over the lawn for the guests to sit and enjoy the scones and cream tea and large vases of abundant wild flowers were dotted around the garden. With an old wind up gramophone playing jazz and the bunting fluttering in the breeze, it was a perfect country wedding.

The next wedding, found me at a castle on the Essex borders. Amy and Ken had just six weeks to plan their wedding day and it went absolutely according to plan under the careful eye of wedding planner, Lauren at Hedingham Castle. Wedding photography at Castle Hedingham can be challenging with the lack of light in the dark castle ceremony room. Top quality professional lenses are needed to capture the important moments without needing to use harsh flashlight.

The couple had to dodge showers for most of the day but the sun came out at teatime and we went down to the lake to capture a set of beautiful, natural and romantic wedding photographs.

Another family wedding was held first at Layer Marney Tower church and then in the bride’s parents garden. A quite breathtaking marquee was set right next to the lake and as dusk fell, hundreds of torches were lit around the edges. Emily had been planning her perfect wedding day since she was very young and one of the images she knew she wanted was of her and her new husband, Chris, on the Japanese Bridge overlooking the lake. It was one I made sure not to miss!
