How I photograph Beautiful English Weddings.

Welcome and thank you for visiting my website.

I specialise in photographing beautiful ‘English Weddings’. I am based in the heart of the Suffolk countryside and privileged to be able to work at some of the most beautiful wedding venues ……from historic churches and stately manor houses…. to vintage themed garden tea parties and quirky tepee marquees.

Here in England, we have a wonderful rich heritage to draw upon when planning weddings and I am always impressed with the careful and meticulous planning of my clients and it is my job, through my photography, to ensure that I capture their own unique vision of their wedding day.

I work in a calm, quiet manner, focusing on moments that capture above all, the happiness and joy of your wedding day. I take natural images as they happen but also plan ahead for some elegant group shots, if required, and a few moments with the two of you alone, to take some fabulous romantic signature portraits.

I really like to start early on the day of the wedding, spending the preparation time with the bride and her family, recording the excitement and anticipation as everyone gets ready for the ceremony. I try to be as unobtrusive as possible, helping where I can, and always keep in mind that this can often be an emotional and poignant moment as a bride leaves her family home for the last time as a single woman. I leave for the church in plenty of time to catch up with the groom and guests arriving and so when couples come to view their pictures afterwards, it is really nice for them to experience a little of the atmosphere they both missed on the day.

Bride’s often say that the ceremony can pass in a blur and I aim once again to take the key moments to be re-lived again and again. These pictures are accompanied by wide vista shots of your chosen venue, often beautiful English country churches, decorated with garlands of lavender and fragrant roses, ladies in hats, and gents in morning suits with bright silk ties. I photograph images that capture all the senses, from the church bells ringing, to the dried petals thrown by little flower girls, to help evoke all your own memories of your day.

Once back at your reception, I look for pictures that will reflect your family and friends enjoying the atmosphere you have created.  Beginning with wide landscape shots to set the scene, then focusing on guests who may have gathered on the lawn, drinking champagne, or sipping tea from vintage china and eating warm scones, piled high with jam and cream on old fashioned cake stands. I follow the action as people stroll around the beautiful gardens or play a game of croquet, looking for unseen moments and special details to add depth to the story of your wedding day.

Laughter at weddings

As the day draws to a close, the speeches are one of my favourite times to capture totally natural, heartfelt images. Pictures taken at this time can really portray the fun and laughter of the occasion but is also a time when it is important for me to be sympathetic to special relationships and more poignant moments. I always keep an eye out for my couple’s unique touches and might include images of unusual table centrepieces, name cards held in place with sprigs of lavender or vintage luggage tags and beautifully wrapped favours of pretty sugared almonds, English heritage seed packets or homemade jams with gingham covered lids.

I always love to photograph your First Dance, when it can often appear that you have forgotten everyone else in the room and are just present in the moment with each other. This is quickly followed by a time which couples always tell me is very special ………. as you are joined on the dance floor by all your family and best friends and start to really PARTY!

My final signature shot is always as I leave the wedding, taken from outside looking back and looking in, past the fairy lights strung in the trees,  to the warmth and music and sounds of laughter from inside as you party on into the night.

And it’s not just in the midst of summer that I photograph these fabulous English Country Weddings. My winter and especially Christmas weddings are rich with colours and textures which work wonderfully for photography. A wealth of carefully chosen details can again give a fabulous backdrop and depth to your wedding images. Roaring log fires, flickering candles, fir cones and cinnamon sticks for your table decorations and mistletoe and trailing ivy on the walls. Your guests might sip hot mulled wine, and venture outside, wrapped up warmly, to watch fireworks and children excitedly play with sparklers.

Professional Nikon cameras and fine quality lenses allow me to record your day with no need for flash which can blast unflattering light onto your guests. Your images will look as you remember the scene, with the warm glowing colours and soft lights and no brightly lit startled people with impenetrable black backgrounds!

After the wedding, your photographs are meticulously and sensitively edited to ensure fine quality, elegant pictures with no garish colours or ‘zany’ photoshop alterations. They are carefully colour corrected to complement beautiful skin tones with soft muted colours. My passion is to bring out the very best in all of my brides, taking extra time and care to make their pictures flawless. I love black and white styled images and will always prepare a selection of photos that work well with this treatment. These are often key shots where once the colour is removed; the eye focuses just on the emotions portrayed in the picture.

As my approach is to tell the story of your day, I always design a professional album layout for all my clients which you are welcome to keep, even if you do not wish to buy one at this stage. The album manufacturers I use, provide some of the best albums in the world and make a wonderful way to keep your cherished memories safe for ever.  I am also aware, that in this digital age, many of you will feel it is increasingly important to own your own digital images and I have tailored my price list with this in mind.

I hope that you will appreciate my high quality, personal service. I am always available to answer any questions you may have regarding your wedding photography and  I will do my utmost to make it a wonderful experience for you.
